Origin Story
Sustainable Amor began in 2020 when Elle was living in Chicago, a city of diverse cultures, vibrant street style, and deep social disparities. Surrounded by the bustling energy and the realities of her frontline community, she started to question what it truly means to have "good style"—not just aesthetically, but ethically.
For Elle, style was never just about looking good; it was about making conscious, moral choices in a world where resources and privilege are unevenly distributed. As a low-income Latina, she has consistently found herself navigating the tension between the desire for self-expression and the oppressive and racist constraints imposed on her life.
With limited resources, Elle has made it her purpose to piece together a new vision of style—one that wasn't driven by trends but by values. She explores how to find balance in a world where sustainable choices that often seem out of reach for people like her. Through this journey, she discovered that living sustainably isn’t just about consumption or restraint; it’s about embracing a flow of giving and taking—being generous with love for oneself, others, and the planet, while also being mindful of limits and boundaries.
This is critical given the pervasive trend of "selfish love" in society—a kind of extractive love that prioritizes individual gain over collective well-being. It is evident not only in how people treated each other but how we interact with the environment. This led her to seek a new approach: Sustainable Amor. She envisions a movement grounded in the idea of "sustainable love," where caring for oneself and others isn't mutually exclusive. … where we find harmony amid the chaos and dilemmas we face daily.
Today, through Sustainable Amor, Elle shares her mindful journey toward ethical fashion, offering insights on how we can transform social and environmental challenges. She also encourages people to raise their collective consciousness by loving their style and the planet simultaneously.
Her mission is to show that style isn't just an individual expression but a shared responsibility—an opportunity to weave personal and collective narratives into a fabric that supports a more just and sustainable world.
