Ethical Fashion: Love your Style, Love the Planet
Sustainable Amor’s vision is to effectively make a difference by loving your style and the planet. This is done by upholding SIX values across all the content shared on this platform:
Authenticity: Be yourself and allow others to be themselves as they navigate the issues, solutions, and pathways to move forward in the fashion industry and climate crisis
Radical Love: Meet people where they are at, foster relationships and hold empathic conversations with your community
Intentionality: Be conscious of how you treat others, your clothing, and the earth
Solidarity: Support, help and take action to build mutual support
Community: Work with others and encourage teamwork for collaborations and solutions
Accountability: Hold leaders, businesses, stakeholders, and friends/family responsible for the issues in the fashion industry and for taking action
Origin Story
Sustainable Amor began in 2020 when Elle started living in downtown Chicago, a city filled with diverse cultures, vibrant street styles, and deep social disparities. Being surrounded by the bustling energy and reminded of the struggles from her upbringing in a frontline, working-class BIPOC-led city called Joliet, IL, she found herself questioning what it truly means to have "good style"—not just aesthetically, but ethically and systemically.
Elle was also called to understand fashion in a deeper sense given her interest in ethics and philosophy and because she didn’t care about style being just about looking good. Fashion became a journey to be more conscious and create moral choices in a world where resources and privileges are unevenly distributed. This hasn’t been easy given she has needed to continuously navigate the tension between the desire for self-expression with the oppressive and racist constraints imposed on her life.
Elle has created Sustainable Amor as an act of love, despite her limited resources. She has now made it her purpose to bring accessible, free education on sustainable and ethical fashion, environmentalism, and social justice. In her work. you will find her exploring sustainable choices that often seem (and are) out of reach for low-income frontline communities, a reality she fully understands and lives every day. These conversations and efforts are hence not a concept but very real, lived struggles to bring more consciousness and actionable change. But through this journey, she has discovered that dressing ethically and sustainably isn’t just about consumption or restraint; it’s about embracing a flow of giving and taking—being generous with love for oneself, others, and the planet, while also being mindful of limits and boundaries.
This is critical given the pervasive trend of "selfish love" in society—a kind of extractive love that prioritizes individual gain over collective well-being. It has undeniably shaped privileged Westerners’ behavior by how we treat each other and how we interact with the environment and the world. Embracing and continuously creating Sustainable Amor is an intercultural effort that has combined her native Spanish language and American English indoctrination, pushing for sustainable love as a movement to ground us in a lifestyle where caring for oneself and others isn't mutually exclusive. One where can have the energy and courage to find harmony amid the chaos and dilemmas we face everyday.
So you will find Elle building Sustainable Amor as a lifelong and mindful journey toward ethical and sustainable fashion, offering insights on how we can transform social and environmental challenges. She also encourages people to raise their collective consciousness by loving their style and the planet.
Remember that fashion isn't just an individual expression but a shared responsibility—an opportunity to weave personal and collective narratives into a fabric of being that supports a more just and sustainable world.
