New Seasonless and Tie Dye Clothing Trends Are Making Sustainable Fashion Mainstream

An explosion of demand for comfy, seasonless clothing has sprouted as more and more people are working from home. This demand has transformed the fashion industry because brands are now supplying seasonless collections. This shift to comfortable, have-forever clothing in our living room has effectively slowed the entire fashion industry from its regular 52 fashion collections in a year.

Designers are now considering seasonless styles as the new trend in fashion. All the while, there has also been the emergence of tie dye, described by trend analysts as nostalgic fashion. This means clothing has morphed into a form of escapism for consumers, which are facing a pandemic, recession and civil unrest. It is theorized that the current cultural and political unrest has evoked a resurgence of this trend, which was prominent in the counterculture of the 70’s.

In addition, tie dye has emerged because of the increased time at home which has caused boredom and restlessness. This DIY technique has been seen emerge within popular social media platforms, such as Tik Tok and Instagram. Swasti Sarna, Insights Manager at Pinterest, said searches for "tie-dye techniques videos" have doubled in the past five weeks compared to year-over-year data. In addition, queries for "bleach tie-dye" and "tie-dye crafts" are each up 13 times the amount they were in the same period last year, and she anticipates interest for the activity will continue as the pandemic continues.

According to Poshmark data, provided to Business Insider, listings and purchases for tie-dye apparel has increased by 75% for women and 100% for men during the months of March, April, and May compared to the same period last year.

Collections, as seen in David Dobrik’s latest merch drop, incorporates the essential element of comfortable, living room- esque clothing with tie-dye features in his seasonless drops. Most likely you will be seeing more collabs and drops in this trend, with darker washes applying to cooler months.

This seems to be a sure sign of a shift within the consciousness of consumers. With a slowing down in the average persons day, the values of sustainable fashion have the potential in taking hold for the future to come.
