JOIN THE CHALLENGE! Remake’s 90 Day #NoNewClothes
As we get closer and closer to June, we can feel summer slowly creeping in. During this weird moment in our lives, it may be hard not to imagine ourselves at the beach in a cute bikini. We wonder what we will wear and whether it will be practical to buy dresses and trendy summer clothes. This is an experience that is strange and new but can actually be transformative if we allow it to be. There is low pressure to dress and look a certain way since we will be alone with close family and friends. This can be an incentive in participating in Remake’s 90 Day #NoNewClothes campaign launching June 1st and ending September 1st.
Buying no new clothes means trying to buy nothing at all or only shopping secondhand. It is up to you how you define this challenge based on needs and limitations. However, if you do need to purchase something new buy smarter. This can mean buying clothing that was made better, will be easy to care for and is of greater quality. Secondhand options may be harder for goods including underwear and socks, so consider the fabric, how long the garment will last, whether it’ll make it through multiple washing and wear and if it’s something you absolutely love.
Intention is everything! This will be a personal journey that will allow you to further understand your shopping habits and desires. It may be helpful to state that this process won’t be perfect. If you want to try this challenge for the first time, then be prepared to be challenged. It will be hard not buying discounted shirts and jeans online and you may give in. Take every step as a learning experience and don’t be too tough on yourself. Every step counts and don’t give up if you do make a misstep.
If you want to dive deep into this challenge, consider how your current clothing can be reworn into new, exciting outfits. Think about matching colors, prints, and styles to create new looks. Be creative and see what you can accomplish. The goal is to not shop for new pieces you can already create yourself! In addition, it may be worth mentioning that this challenge can help you realize how much money you can save!! It is an underrated aspect of shifting to sustainable fashion that should be more celebrated. By doing good you help your personal finances breath and grow. This could help you save resources for your dream vacation or expensive goal. Don’t forget to have fun and enjoy shopping from the most sustainable clothing option on the earth…… your own closet!
