Staying Safe with Ethically Made Face Masks

During the pandemic, it is essential to wear face masks as a manner to keep the community safe. With the growing demand of face masks as quarantine has been further extended, reusable face masks have become an essential need. Provided that you had sewing skills this would have been no problem. However, without any sewing skills nor willingness to leave the house, ordering masks online is our best bet. Amongst all the shops online, I believe Coalition for Spiritual and Public Leadership’s LLF Cloth Masks are an amazing option.

Coalition for Spiritual & Public Leadership is a Chicagoland not-for-profit, multi-racial, multi-ethnic grassroots led coalition that includes parishes, institutions and communities to address racial, social, economic, and environmental injustice by building power that is rooted in the vision of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The cloth masks are produced by the workers and owners of Living La Fiesta and sold on CSPL’s website. They have pivoted from preparing food to making home-made protective masks for the general public. Most of the worker-owners are immigrant women who live in Broadview, Maywood and across Chicago.

These masks can be ordered for personal use and delivered to the provided address. This purchase would help support this worker-owned cooperative. Every dollar received from a purchase will go directly in supporting Living La Fiesta and its owner-workers.  In addition, money can be donated to help with the purchasing costs of supplies and creation of masks for others in need.

These homemade masks have utilized recycled fabric that have been cleaned and sanitized. If you are interested in donating clean cotton fabrics, make sure to contact CSPL’s Economic Justice Organizer, Gabriel Lara at gabriel@cspl.org
